The film is based on a real incident and story of an Indian soldier Captain Vikram Batra. Karan Johar had announced this film in 2018. The film was scheduled to release on 3 July 2020, but due to the COVID pandemic, the film was delayed by a year to a new release date of 12 August 2021.
